Press and Praise

Over the past few weeks there’s been a lot happening. Not just personally but globally and to say that I haven’t been phased by it, would not be an accurate statement. While trying to ensure that everyone and everything else around me stayed afloat, I realized that I was starting to feel overwhelmed. Although I was seeing answers to prayers, there was one area that still seemed impossible. I realized that I was treating my prayer life and my faith walk like plug and play. I wanted to just plug in a quick prayer or take a few steps of faith and expected instant manifestation. Right at the point of wanting to just throw in the towel, I began to pray. God reminded me that He wanted all of me. You see, I was teaching about faith, but yet I wasn’t completely walking by faith. Although this wasn’t intentional, ultimately what I was saying to God was that I didn’t trust Him to handle this situation. That’s when I realized instead of plug and play I needed to press and praise.

Press is the root word of pressure. When you press something, pressure is applied and there is a response to the pressure. If you press the gas pedal while driving you will accelerate. If you press the doorbell, it will produce sound alerting those behind the door of your presence. If you press your way through the crowd, you use force to move people out of the way so that you can reach your destination. So what does pressing have to do with responding to everything that’s happening and what exactly does it mean to press? I have a couple of acronyms that will help explain:

Now we can’t stop at pressing. As we mentioned, there’s always a response to the press. Our response must always be praise. We should praise before, during and after the press. This is what God gave me as an acronym for praise:
