Trust. It’s probably the most important factor in the stability of a relationship, yet trust is frequently broken. The lack of trust causes friendships, marriages, business partnerships and even ministries to end. Why? Because lack of trusts breeds doubt, fear, resentment, anger and so many other negative emotions, that eventually cause one or both parties to sever the relationship. Now these are physical relationships. What about our relationship with God? Like our physical relationships, a true relationship with God requires that we trust Him completely. Unlike our physical relationships, even when we don’t trust Him, He never leaves us. God is asking today, “do you trust me”?
Before you answer that question, let’s look at what it means to trust. Dictionary.com provides these two definitions for trust:
1. reliance on the integrity, strength, ability, surety, etc., of a person or thing; confidence.
2. confident expectation of something; hope.
Looking at these two definitions, the first thing we learn about trust is that you are not relying on our own strength, understanding, ability, etc., but on that of someone else. Secondly, you have a confident expectation, you’re fully persuaded, and you have a strong hope. Here’s what the bible says about trust:
1. Trust in the Lord completely, and do not rely on your own opinions. With all your heart rely on him to guide you, and he will lead you in every decision you make. Become intimate with him in whatever you do, and he will lead you wherever you go. Proverbs 3:5-6 TPT
2. Now faith brings our hopes into reality and becomes the foundation needed to acquire the things we long for. It is all the evidence required to prove what is still unseen. Hebrews 11:1 TPT
3. For not only has the Word concerning and from the Lord resounded forth from you unmistakably in Macedonia and Achaia, but everywhere the report has gone forth of your faith in God [of your leaning of your whole personality on Him in complete trust and confidence in His power, wisdom, and goodness]. So, we [find that we] never need to tell people anything [further about it]. 1 Thessalonians 1:8 AMPC
4. And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform. Romans 4:21 KJV

What we discover is the requirements are the same whether we trust in man or in God. The key though is to establish trust. Trust is only established after we have taken the time to become intimate, or get to know someone, about something. We have to be intentional, deliberate in establishing trust. Think about it, you just don’t eat a restaurant that you’ve never been to before without reading reviews or talking to people about their experience. We choose our barbers and stylists and even our doctors, based on trustworthy reviews. It’s the same with our relationships. Most of us would not marry someone without spending ample amount of time with that person to learn their ways, likes and dislikes. It’s the same with God. In order to trust God with your life, you have to spend time with Him. This requires more than going to church once or twice a week. Just like you tal
k to your significant other at least once a day, in order to trust God, there needs to be daily interaction with Him. Just like when you’re in a committed relationship, because of that connection you’re less likely to be distracted by another person. It’s the same with God. Because of our connection with Him, even when everything all around us appears to be falling apart, we can remain confident that God will see us through. Even when the doctor says there’s nothing else, he can do, we can choose to believe the report of the Lord that says by the stripes of Jesus we are healed. When your business is not thriving due to the economic downturn, we can trust God because He is the one that gives us the power to get wealth. So, if you find yourself having
difficulty trusting God, here’s three things to do:
1. Surrender your life to Him. Let go of the wheel and let God drive. He knows the plans he has for you and has orchestrated the path for you to reach your destiny.
2. Spend time with God. That specific area where you’re finding it difficult to trust Him, grab your bible and meditate on the word pertaining to that area.
3. Revelation + Application = Transformation. Apply the word that you’ve studied and meditated on to your life. Faith without works is dead. There must be a correspondent action. You can say all day that you trust that a chair can hold you, but if you never sit in the chair there’s not application of your faith.
Today, make this your declaration: I declare that I trust the will of God for my life! Until next week….
Be blessed, but first comes obedience!
